Spirulina
Spirulina is a highly nutritious blue-green alga. Packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and plant protein. In fact protein makes up 65-70% of its content. A protein called phycocyanin is the pigment that gives spirulina its blue-green colour. Known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Spirulina also contains magnesium. A vital mineral that supports normal daily functions like muscle movements and creating energy. Most people do not get enough magnesium in their diet.
Chlorella
Chlorella is also a nutrient-dense freshwater algae, similar to Spirulina. It has a similar nutrient profile but it is a better source of healthy fats like omega-3s. It ’s also an excellent source of B vitamins, including riboflavin (B2), thiamine(B1), and folate (B9) Research has found that chlorella can bind to heavy metals in the body, flushing them from your system before being absorbed by your body.
